H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces attended here Thursday evening the third episode of the 'Poet of a million' poetry contest organised by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage(ADACH) at Al Raha Beach Theatre.

Abu Dhabi launches poetry encyclopaedia website Posted on 18/12/2008
The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) has announced that it will soon launch a website that serves as the latest issue of the poetry encyclopaedia, to coincide with the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, held on March 2009.
The fourth edition of the encyclopaedia, whose publishing rights are owned by ADACH, will include: 2,693 poetry collections (which mount to 2,890,301 verses or 138,641 poems). In addition, it will have 1,081 books on scientific, literary and historical

Haneen Ajarneh has everything to play for. She is one of only three women out of 48 finalists in this year's Millions Poet television show.
"I was so happy to have been admitted to the finals and to have reached the Arab public across the Arab world,” says Ms Ajarneh, a psychologist from Naour, one of many Bedouin villages in Jordan's desert valleys.

Abu Dhabi's KALIMA participates at UN conference on languages Posted on 16/12/2008
An official at the United Nations and UNESCO announced the participation of KALIMA, a translation project launched by Abu the Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), at an international conference held this week at the UN headquarters in New York entitled: "Linguistic Diversity, Globalization and Development".
The conference, which coincides with the closing of the 'International Year of Languages 2008', is organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information and UNESCO.

UAE laws promote cultural amity Posted on 08/12/2008
The UAE's laid out regulations, laws, local and federal administrative systems have promoted peaceful coexistence among all the nationalities in the country, a senior police official said.
Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police's Deputy Commandant General, was giving a speech during a discussion session titled "the pillars of preventative security in multicultural societies".

The Director-General of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura and representative of H.H Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah Abdullah Al Owais awarded the 2008 Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture to Egyptian Professor Gaber Asfour and Portuguese author Adalberto Alves in a ceremony in the Organization's Headquarters in Paris.

United Arab Emirates has been elected to head the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. If Mahmoud Darwish gave voice to the Palestinian struggle, Marcel Khalife has provided the soundtrack.
That is how Hoda Kanoo, the founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, has described the significance of the Palestinian poet, who died in August, and the celebrated musician, who will perform in the capital this month.
