 ADTA to increase overseas promotions in 2009

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), the apex body which manages the tourism industry in Abu Dhabi emirate, is to mount pavilions at 17 overseas exhibitions across 11 countries in 2009 - three more than in 2008.

 Abu Dhabi to have 23,000 hotel rooms by 2012: ADTA

By 2012, the numbers of hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi are expected to rise to 23,000 with the demand and supply stabilizing between 2012 and 2015, HE Mubarak Hamad Al Muheiri, Director General of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), said on Sunday after opening the first edition of the Equip'Hotel Middle East Exhibition and Conference (EHME), a major trade show focused on the region's hospitality industry.

 Flights planned to Sir Bani Yas

Soon visitors can take commercial flights from the UAE capital to the country's largest wildlife reserve island of Sir Bani Yas in Al Gharbia with the Abu Dhabi Airports Company commencing its management and operation of a new dedicated air terminal on the island.

Cruise tourist arrivals in Dubai will grow more than 75 per cent to 200,000 this year in a boost to the city's ambition of becoming a maritime business hub.
Official figures show the city has come a long way as a cruise destination in five years. Dubai received just 2,700 cruise passengers from five ship calls in 2003, but last year 113,000 cruise passengers visited the city.

 Nakheel takes over ownership of QE2

The exchange of flags aboard the QE2 on Thursday sealed the vessel's new ownership under master-developer Nakheel.
Following 39 years of service, the QE2 will start a new chapter as an ultra-luxury hotel in Dubai, on the Palm Jumeirah.
The Cunard flags were lowered and Nakheel's raised.
The Captain then sounded the whistle for 39 seconds, "one second for every year of her service", Captain Ian McNaught said.

 Sharjah’s hotel occupancy rates rise 75 per cent

Sharjah has registered 75 per cent growth in its hotel occupancy for the third quarter of 2008, with an increase of 13 per cent in the number of tourist visiting the emirate, according to statistic reports issued by the Sharjah Commercial and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA).

 Ratings to prepare for medical tourism bid

Doctors and hospitals are to be given performance ratings as part of plans to make the UAE a destination for medical tourists.
The Ministry of Health announced the ratings system will be based on stars similar to those awarded to hotels, enabling people to see which professionals or clinics rate highest or provide the best treatment for particular procedures or operations. The results will be displayed online.

Promoted by word of mouth and little local advertising, the first of Abu Dhabi's desert island hotels opened fully booked this month.

General Manager of Emirates Palace Hans Olbertz has revealed the Abu Dhabi iconic property has succeeded in attracting celebrities and stars of the US in the arts, movies and music industry to stay in the hotel and enjoy its premier luxury hospitality.

Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which manages the tourism industry within Abu Dhabi, has launched a year-long visitor profile campaign to gain crucial insights into a variety of inbound tourism drivers.
