There are 800 pure Arabian Salukis (tall slender dogs of a silky coated breed) across the UAE that continue to grow in number with the help of one man whose passion and hobby towards the desert hounds was inherited since birth.
The hunting hounds have been around for more than 7,000 years BC; their country of origin is the Arabian Peninsula, Egypt, Syria and Jordan.

The third Arabian Saluki Beauty Contest will be organised by the Arabian Saluki Centre, Abu Dhabi, during this year's International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.
The event, which will take place from October 8 to 11 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, is sponsored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Emirates Falconers Club. UAE to attend Saluki Congress in Helsinki Posted on 18/06/2008
The UAE has been invited to participate in an international conference on the preservation of Saluki dogs. The Finnish Saluki Club will hold the Saluki World Congress 2008 in Helsinki and the Abu Dhabi-based Arabian Saluki Centre (ASC) will deliver one of the presentations. Around 1,000 participants and 800 Salukis from 22 countries will take part in event, from June 26 to July 7.

Hundreds of Saluki owners from the UAE and other GCC countries are expected to showcase their highly prized breeds in the Second Arabian Saluki Beauty Contest being held from October 24 to 27. The Arabian Saluki Centre, Abu Dhabi, announced Sunday its 'Second Arabian Saluki Beauty Contest' to be held during this year's Abu Dhabi 2007 International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition.
All owners in the UAE and GCC countries are requested to register their Arabian Salukis with the Arabian Saluki Centre for the show which will take place from Oct. 24 to 27 in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 11am to 10pm.

The Arabian Saluki Centre, Abu Dhabi, yesterday announced that it will participate in the Festival of the Salukis 2007 to be held from August 31 to September 7 in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The Arabian Saluki Centre, established in 2002 by Hamad Al Ganem with the support of the Emirates Falconers' Club, commits itself to both the preservation of the pure breed Arabian Saluki and the traditional way of the Arabian hunting as an essential part of the cultural heritage.

Reading, London - The first Saluki racetrack will be set up in Abu Dhabi within the next two years as part of the Emirates' bid to promote its national heritage, said officials yesterday at an international event held in the UK.

The Arabian Saluki Centre on Friday night announced the two most beautiful Arabian Saluki dogs in a beauty contest held on the sidelines of the annual Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (Adihex 2006).
