Dubai hotels will cut rates to attract tourists

Many hotels in Dubai will reduce room rates by half during the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) as part of a campaign by the emirate's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to boost visitor arrivals amid an economic slowdown. The new marketing campaign includes discounts on room rates ranging from 40 per cent to 60 per cent, DTCM said yesterday. Nakheel takes over ownership of QE2

The exchange of flags aboard the QE2 on Thursday sealed the vessel's new ownership under master-developer Nakheel. Following 39 years of service, the QE2 will start a new chapter as an ultra-luxury hotel in Dubai, on the Palm Jumeirah. The Cunard flags were lowered and Nakheel's raised. Site preparation, excavation and dewatering at the site of the Park Hyatt Resort, Abu Dhabi National Hotel's (ADNH) flagship project on Saadiyat Island, is now complete, according to a senior official from ADNH. Exactly 40 years to the day that the QE2 went on its first sea trials on November 26, 1968, the famous ocean liner arrived in Dubai to begin a new life as a luxury hotel.
