A delegation from the Federal National Council (FNC) will participate in the extraordinary meeting of the Arab Transitional Parliament (ATP), to be held at the Arab League Headquarters in Cairo.
The two-day meeting, which opens today, is being held at the invitation of the ATP Speaker, Mohammed Jasim Al-Saqr, to discuss the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

 FNC ratifies the Dh42.2bn federal draft budget for 2009

The Federal National Council (FNC) has given its approval for the Federal daft budget for 2009, the biggest in the history of UAE.
The FNC session chaired by Speaker Abdul Aziz Abdullah Ghurair was attended by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash and Minister of State for Financial Affairs HE Obeid Humaid Al Tayer.
The Dh42.2bn no-surplus and zero deficit budget covers all ministries and the affiliated federal institutions.

 UAE's Federal National Council condemns Israeli aggression on Gaza

The Federal National Council (FNC) of the United Arab Emirates yesterday condemned, in the strongest terms, the continued Israeli airstrikes on Gaza Strip, which started on Saturday.

 FNC sanctions recommendations on foreign labour

The Federal National Council (FNC) has recommended country-wise quota for non-Arab Labour, with proportional regional allocations so as to ensure cultural diversity on the national level instead of attaining it on corporate level.
The FNC also approved other recommendations pertaining to the foreign labour after lengthy discussions on the issue as well as on the impact of the new regulations of the Labour Ministry.

Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair received yesterday the President of the European Parliament Hans Gert Pottering, who is in UAE as part of a gulf tour.
The two sides discussed cooperation between FNC and the European Parliament.  FNC's Media Committee continues to discuss the country's media law

The media committee set up by the Federal National Council (FNC) continued its discussion to craft the country's new media law.
The Federal Media Law will regulate the media activities in the UAE. The draft law consists of 45 articles in seven chapters binding audio-visual and print media as well as the related activities. The bill also provides definitions of basic concepts, stipulates core rules and lays out punitive measures for violations.

The Federal National Council (FNC) hailed yesterday the recent amendments to the country's constitution. Opening the second session of the third ordinary season in the 14th Legislative Chapter, the Speaker Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair said that the FNC hopes that the amendments represent a solid step in the gradual and carefully studied march to develop the parliamentary system and the process of political participation.

Around 250,000 UAE nationals are projected to enter the private sector labour market over the next 13 years and the economic development pattern could bring a similar figure of foreign workers into the country by 2020, Labour Minister HE Saqr Ghobash disclosed yesterday.

Prominent Italian politician and Chairman of the Italian parliament Gianfranco Fini will visit UAE early next year to hold talks with Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair.
FNC Secretary General Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Mazroui said that during the recent tour of the FNC delegation to Italy, the arrangements for Fini's visit were discussed. Formation of an Italian-UAE parliamentary friendship committee is on the cards, Al Mazroui added.
