Etihad Airways' fifth year of operations saw passenger numbers total 6,021,931 and the average seat factor rise from 68% to 75%.
The airline has also taken delivery of nine new aircraft boosting its fleet to a total of 42.
Etihad launched six new routes in 2008 - Beijing, Minsk, Almaty, Kozhikode, Chennai and Moscow - as well as signing a record order of US$43bn at the Farnborough International Airshow for up to 205 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

As budget airlines around the world are feeling the pinch of the global credit crunch, the Middle East low-cost carriers (LCCs) continued to fly high in 2008.
Low-cost passengers account for about two per cent of the region's air traffic, which is due for a major boost once more LCCs start operation in the region (including Flydubai) and the new Low Cost Terminal at Jebel Ali's new airport takes off in mid-2009.

The government of Dubai has transferred ownership of Emirates airline and air travel services firm Dnata to state-owned Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), Emirates said yesterday.
"We can confirm that ownership of Emirates Group Decree Companies which include Emirates and Dnata have been transferred to the Investment Corporation of Dubai under official decrees ... " a spokesman for the airline said, without stating a reason for the move.

Etihad to receive eight Airbus A33o aircraft powered by Rolls Royce engines Posted on 24/12/2008
Etihad Airways confirmed yesterday they will receive deliveries of eight Airbus A330 aircraft powered by Rolls Royce's Trent 700EP engines. The delivery dates will be between now and 2011.
"The value of engines for the eight aircraft is US$575 million (Dh2,110.2 million). This price includes costs related to maintenance and service of the engines," a spokesman for the UAE national airline told Gulf News.

UAE and Japan agree to enhance air links Posted on 23/12/2008
The UAE and Japanese governments have agreed to boost air links between the two countries, drawing cheers from Emirates and Etihad that welcomed the prospect of expanding their Asia services.
Starting from March 2010, the UAE-based carriers will be able to have 35 weekly passenger flights to Osaka and Nagoya using any type of aircraft.

Etihad gets flying rights to Japan Posted on 22/12/2008
The country's flag carrier shall start its direct flights to Japan from March 2010.
This is based on a flying rights agreement secured between the UAE and Japan last week, according to a source from the Etihad Airways Corporate Communications Department.
A press statement on Thursday said that the agreement was a result of the bilateral talks which took place in Tokyo during the past week between officials and representatives of both governments, the aviation industry and the Etihad Airways.
